With my wife being pregnant again I find myself Googling for more cool baby gender prediction methods during my lunch hour to kill time. This one is probably the craziest that I've found and is not recommended!! Amazing the lengths that some people will go to find out the gender of their unborn child.

To quote from this site:

This baby gender prediction method has been around for decades, and makes it's rounds regularly on the web as a potential way to find out what gender your baby is.

The recipe to test this method is below, but it is NOT advisable that you try it as it produces very toxic fumes and the results are unreliable.

The drano / draino gender test should be performed after the 4 month of pregnancy.

This test must be performed outside in a glass / jar that holds can hold twice as much urine as you use as there is a bubbling, smelly, and caustic chemical reaction when you add your urine to the crystal drano.

What is needed for the Drano / Draino Gender Prediction Test:

* Approximately 2 tablespoons of CRYSTAL Drano * Medium glass or glass jar. It is best to just throw the mixing glass away after performing this test. * Two to Three ounces of urine, preferably the first morning urine.

Take the test materials outside. Add your urine to the glass jar with the crystal drano in it. There will be a rapid chemical reaction and it is best to stay well away from the glass jar while the fumes are being produced.

When the reaction stops, observe the color of the test.

If the mixture darkens to a brownish color within the first 10 seconds - It is a boy. If there is no darkening or color change after 10 - 15 seconds - It is a girl.

When you are done, you will need to carefully dispose of the mixture as it will have a very bad smell and still be very caustic.

The color results above are not very reliable as you will find many different variations of the colors in the results with people interpretting them all differently. This is not a reliable way to determine the gender of your baby, and could have serious side effects to the mom to be if the fumes are inhaled or the mixture gets on the skin. NOT RECOMMENDED as a baby gender prediction method.

this thing on?

Sammy Larbi's Gravatar I clicked one of the ads shown here for "Baby Gender Predictor" at fortunebaby.com/gender.

I set today as the conception date, and here is part of what it said:

Based on: Conception Date (February 1st, 2007)

* You are 2 weeks and 0 days pregnant.

Amazing!

todd sharp's Gravatar That really is how they figure it Sammy. Due date is calculated as 40 weeks from the day of your last period (which is technically give or take 2 weeks from ovulation). God, am I really discussing this?

todd sharp's Gravatar I can not stop laughing at your comment Charlie. Seriously.

Ryan Everhart's Gravatar no thanks, we'll just wait.

pim's Gravatar Try tis one, it is an old chinese method that is supposed to be 90% accurate ;)

Andrew's Gravatar The lengths people will go to in order to guess/determine gender! I've hear of this really radical method where they look at the baby using sound and view the gender in utero! That's called ultrasound for those not accustomed to sarcasm). Most insurance companies cover it and it's usually spot-on! No caustic fumes or chemicals, no glass jars, or urinating on household cleaning products in the back yard while holding your breath!

todd sharp's Gravatar That doesn't sound like fun at all Andrew.

Juan's Gravatar Shocking, but as you said, I wouldn't try it...

Seriously speaking, there are only two ways to know the gender of an unborn baby: ultrasound at week 20 or Y-chromosome DNA test at week 6 and after. Check http://www.genednatest.com/early-gender-test.html

cheers

Cheryl's Gravatar I already know I am having a boy but I was wanting to see just how accurate the gender prediction tests are. I visited a few sites and found that every time the chinese calendar thing was right. I was actually very surprised because my family was telling me that I was having a girl.

Wish me luck!!!
Due 4/21/07

Dr Marcsh's Gravatar Even though I am a doctor I tried the calendar at http://www.chinesebirthcalendar.org/ it was fun and yes it was correct in my case, however there is no scientific evidence that such calculations are correct and one should not take these things seriously, instead an expectant mum should visit the medical center for an ultrasound.

Gender determination is very precise when using 3D/4D ultrasound and an appointment can be made after 20 weeks gestation, there are also cases whereby gender determination has been possible in earlier stages, even as early as 16 weeks.

I believe that some Countries do not permit such information to be given out and for these people there is no reliable way for them to know before have the gender of their new arrival.
