SlideSix Adds jQuery UI Uploader

Last night I pushed a small change to SlideSix.com. This change was the simple addition of yet more jQuery in the form of the UI Uploader. I wanted a way to provide some feedback when uploading files (via a progress bar) and just improve the presentation upload experience a bit. Here is a screenshot of the new upload utility:

After the upload is completed the view uses a nice transition effect to lead the user to another form for inputting additional information as necessary.

At this point the user can choose to accept the default title and description and submit the form without any changes to complete the process. Overall it's a small change, but it is a good testimony to the jQuery's ability to simply enhance the user experience. Oh...the other nice thing I forgot to mention is that the new upload form will degrade gracefully. Users without JavaScript will simply get a plain old vanilla (boring) file input field.

Just out of interest, how do you get the file size of the file before upload, and then how do you get the file size during upload?

Sorry making wild assumptions here, haven't seen the form in action but from the pictures I assume it does these things?

Cheers

You might want to check out the UI Uploader API (http://docs.jquery.com/UI/Uploader). It's using a hidden SWF behind the scenes for all that magic.
