Part of the new scripting enhancements in CF 9 was the addition of a handful of tags as services (which are basically open source CFCs). This is pretty nice because it allows you to do things like CFHTTP calls, CFMail, CFQuery, etc within a cfscript block (or script based component). Handy indeed.

When taking advantage of these services you may come across the error listed in the title of this post. At first I was a bit confused, since I know that CF is supposed to automatically import the 'com.adobe.coldfusion' library which contains these service components. I quickly realized though that the libraries reside under the Coldfusion9/CustomTags folder. A quick check of the custom tag mappings in the administrator showed that my ColdFusion 9 custom tag folder was never added to the list of custom tag paths when I installed 9. This appears to be because I imported a CAR archive from CF 8 (the ColdFusion8/CustomTags folder was still listed). A quick change of the path (and clearing the component path cache just in case) solved the problem.

Another problem I encountered with these cfcs is that CF will search through other custom tag paths you may have trying to find them. I had a path mapped to components of my own one of which had the same name, "feed", and CF instantiated that instead of the Adobe one, which errored when I tried to call methods on it.

So for performance and disambiguation I've taken to specifying the full path each time I want to use one of these components:

var cffeed = New com.adobe.coldfusion.feed();
